vday shopping

Its -9 degrees today... can u see it?

Daryl and I went shopping in Helsinki city today... walked into places where we have not seen before, and ate a very filling pizza buffet at Iguana. A very simple vday and im satisfied already :)
His room mate recommended it.. but i didn't really like it so much. It was okay lah, not too bad i guess. I think the choices of pizza is too limited. There were only 3 types, one is tuna-ish, another is vegetable and mushroom and the last one is ham and cheese.. And the crust is so super thin that I ate about 8 slices of pizza! And of course there were the salad, cold spagetti, chips, some fruits, tea and coffee.

My cute little present from daryl... and i bought him a shirt!
We saw alot of pretty flowers and v day presents everywhere... But we decided to be practical. Haha... since when did i become like that...

I wish i have that pink cake over there...
we walked past outside a very big hotel

thank you so much auntie bel :)

I am so happY!! Just received my parcel from my auntie.. the air mail is quite efficient! The parcel already reached my place on 8 feb, just that i wasn't at home... My aunt sent it on the 2nd of feb! =) And I totally love all the goodies inside!! Let me show you what she bought for me :)
Chinese new year goodies.. love letters, sponge cake and pineapple tarts, which were all neatly wrapped with layers of "soft paper" so that they would not get smashed too much... And they were also neatly packed in the kind of "bubble bag"... those bags with many balls of air! So sweet...

And also this... my most favourite high class kaya... Yakun!

Ikan bilis and rock honey for me to cook green bean soup...

And chocolate and chocolate drink!!

She also sent me some colgate and bottles for travelling cause i forgot to bring them with me...
Thank you so much!! *huGs*
By the way, my housemate baked a really lovely and super chocolatey cake yesterday

French dinner

I had a very interesting time together with my 2 housemates, a Czech girl and another French girl and her housemate yesterday... The 2 very sweet French girl made dinner for us! And I thought that it was a really good meal that they made for us!

First we had appetizer: bread with PIG sausage and butter. The sausage really smelt like PIG. When i brought the piece of pig close to my nose, it smelt quite terrible, truthfully. But when i ate it, it was not bad!

Then there was purple cabbages with bacon... they had to put vinegar to get rid of some blue water when they cook it. I dont really understand what they meant. I took this pic when we were almost finished with it. Liked it alot.

And then there is this: scalloped potatos. They have another name for it in french, but i dont know... Pretty right? Tasted great...

And for dessert... APplE cRumbLE! I really really loved this... its super nice!! I wanna learn how to make this. And i saw them preparing like mad cos they have to peel all the apple skin. ANd they put in tons of sugar!

Eating!

The girls in the kitchen..

Look at Lucy's room.. so well decorated!

That's all about the dinner. I was super full after that. haha.. Here is a pic of my Japanese friend, Hitomi~ we were in our Finnish class

walking on the sea

yeah!! today we went to walk on the sea, which is behind the place where daryl n meiqing stays. Yeah, not swim (of course).. but walk! The sea was frozen and it was snowing.. so the place looked like land but its not! I guess if it is not snowing we might be able to see fishes swimming inside. Haha. Heard from Daryl's housemate that he tried walking and the ice cracked and he fell into the water. But I guess these few days it was too cold so the chance of the ice cracking is lower. The temperature these few days is ard -20 degrees! Cold!!!

The scenary behind is not land, but sea!

The snow angel. We laid on the sea and then sweep our hands and feet to get this angel.

Daryl was trying to "swim"...

Food galore

I just baked a chocolate cake! My housemate from France taught me how to bake... its so nice to eat! Hehe... Sounds if i'm close to her? Actually not at all... She is very close to my the other housemate, and its quite depressing sometimes cause i'm the odd one out. But tah daaa... this is my first lovely chocolate cake ever. Baked one b4 but didnt taste as good as this! Oops.. i was too greedy that I ate a slice before I take a photo of it.

Daryl bought this heart shape doughnut with pink vanilla type of chocolate ( i dont know how to describe) from arnolds for me! It was really nice, i love it.

There is something with a sweetish caramel tasting thing inside...

Our first attempt cooking porridge. We added minced meat and egg... and soya sauce with peper for some taste. Tasted abit bland. What else should be added?

The pepper's brand (found in my house) is actually Fair Price. Is it definitely from singapore? if it is, then some singaporean stayed here b4! :)

Our soup bee hoon. I wish there were some fresh sliced FISH inside!

And our shipment finally came. Very happy now that I will have lots of biscuits to eat but then my mouth cant stop eating. Sigh... going to put on alot of weight. This was how our things were packed and sent to us. We had some difficulties tearing up the whole thing cause it was wrapped so tightly. And i was really irritated at the customs because there was no customers and yet they took nearly an hour just to look at some papers and input some info into the computer. Super inefficient.

Highlight of the day - Free sausages!

We went Tapiola today again... and it was a totally different trip this time round! The most worth it thing that happened was - there was this booth that was set up outside stockmann, and they were giving away free balloons and sausages! Haha... I couldnt believe how childish i was.. i actually wanted the balloon so much! We also took the free sausages... They were so huge and yummy that I really cannot believe that they are free! And we even squeezed alot of tomato sauce and mustard on it! It was extremely delicious and wonderful~

After walking around for awhile, a lady approached us and asked us where we got the balloon from, cause her children wanted it. Too bad the booth was already closed by that time. So I just gave my balloon to the kid. See her happy face... its worth it. Haha

We bought ice-cream.. mad right? Such a cold weather still eat ice cream. 2 litres for 2 euros, quite cheap. Very fattening. It has 3 flavours, the type that my dad likes to buy for me when I was younger.

Look at the watermelon here! I mean the price.

And the quail eggs too. For 40 cents (sing) i can buy the same amount...And here, it cost 5 sing dollars.

This is a super lovely postcard I saw today. But it cost 1 euro.. = 2 sing. I cheated by taking photo of it.. haha

Daryl's first attempt at bah ku teh yesterday. It was okay lah, quite tasty for first attempt. It was a very big pot and there are no pork ribs here. So we made do with pork meat.

complain!!

This is going to be a boring post, cause I have no photos.. But I will make it short and "sweet". Hmm, had a bad experience today with the transportation here. Actually I experienced once before already, but I decided to give it one more chance before I complain...But today, I was late for the lunch meeting with our japanese friend because of the bus!! Argh...

I reached the usual bus stop about 5 minutes before the scheduled time that it was supposed to come, but there was no bus at all... after waiting for about 15 mins, I decided to give up and walk all the way to the train station to take a train instead because the next bus only comes in 30 mins time. Don't understand why the bus didn't come...it probably came a little earlier than the time when I reached the bus stop. (but usually the bus is exactly on time or later) Well never mind... so i took a train to another bus stop (luckily the trains are always punctual and super on time). The bus stop has the "live" timing on when the buses will arrive. And it read "15mins". gosh.. i was already late. So i waited... and waited... after abt 8 mins, it read "13mins". I was so super fustrated that I didn't know what to do... and the bus came. The timing is totally screwed up! Sigh... Crazy buses.

Hated the weather today too. The temperature rose to 1 or 2 degrees and it was raining alittle. And the snow on the ground started to melt and changed into those "tranparent" type of ice that is super slippery. Sigh, maybe the good thing is that when it is slippery, it is not too cold so I dont have to walk too fast.. and when its very very cold, the roads are not slippery and I can walk faster to get into warm buildings.

vahan (a little) updates

There was some winter games held today in school, among the different guilds. We just walked pass and saw them playing.. didnt join them. too bad... Heard from Daryl's housemates that the games were rather interesting... mostly to do with the snow.

Yeah, daryl finally recieved his parcel from his family. Alot of yummy goodies, like spices for ba ku teh, pineapple tarts, ba gua, pork and chicken floss! We had to go to the Vantaa Airport to collect because they wanted to check the goodies inside. i guess pork is not allowed... but the person checked through the box and leniently said okay to the stuffs inside. Luckily! =) See Daryl and his xing fu face

There were people giving out these free yogurts near the bus stop. Its quite nice! I quite like the strawberry flavoured.

Nominated the worst parked car in Finland. Its head is buried in the snow, and the people who walked past while we passed by it kept laughing too.

daryl's hungary housemate cooked for us, potato and sasuage... simple and tasty.

On the right is his housemate, Hensy from Hungary
